Choosing a school sets the shape of the next ten years. Most families make that choice with far less information than it deserves.
Most families decide with more opinions than facts.
You are choosing among schools you cannot fully see, on a timeline you did not set, using advice that contradicts itself.
Some of it comes from other parents. Some from agencies paid by the schools themselves. Some from league tables that measure what is easy to count rather than what will matter to your child. Very little of it is actually about your child.
For families arriving from abroad the gap is wider still. You may be deciding inside a system you are still learning, with limited local knowledge and no reliable way to tell a genuinely good school from a well marketed one.
That is the problem this practice exists to solve. Better information, in the right order, with enough time left to act on it.

The assessment starts with the child: temperament, academic profile, what draws them in and what wears them down. It weighs the frame the family is deciding inside, from day or boarding to location and timing. And it reads each school on its own terms rather than its reputation, so a visit asks the questions that matter instead of the ones already on the tour.
